New anthology focuses on the human side of horror

This October sees the release of No Monsters Allowed, a new horror anthology from Dog Horn Publishing featuring 20 tales of ‘human horror’, edited by Alex Davis. The collection features stories from a host of genre writing talent, including Allen Ashley, Keith Brooke, Jeff Gardiner, Gary McMahon, Anna Taborska and many more.

As the title suggests, No Monsters Allowed avoids the classic elements of many horror tales – vampires, werewolves, zombies and ghosts – to focus on stories of psychological terror and the evil that humankind can do to its own kind. This brings together a mixture of serial killers, twisted family relationships and survival after the apocalypse – a true insight into the darker side of human behaviour, with splashes of grim humour to boot.

Anthology Editor Alex Davis said: ‘No Monsters Allowed is a title and concept that I’ve been keen to work on for some time. Horror is full of old archetypes and stereotypes, which can still be given a fresh spin, but are in increasing danger of becoming tired. This collection aims to get away from that, and offers a lot of tales with a fresh feel, covering a wide range of themes and ideas.’

Dog Horn Publishing owner Adam Lowe said: ‘I’m very excited to be publishing No Monsters Allowed. I think the general population has become a bit weary of the countless supernatural horror franchises out there. Every now and again it’s nice to have a break. What I particularly love is how the anthology contrasts with other titles, such as Terror Scribes and Women Writing the Weird, which do indeed feature monsters. No Monsters Allowed is no less terrifying, and it proves our commitment to publishing a diverse range of books.’

No Monsters Allowed is out now, priced £9.99. For more information, see http://www.doghornpublishing.com/wordpress/books/no-monsters-allowed-ed-by-alex-davies.

Dog Horn Publishing is dedicated to publishing the best in cutting edge literature. Dog Horn publishes bold voices and writing that takes risks. The press is less concerned by genre than it is by defying convention, taking readers someplace new, and challenging the limits of what writing is and does. From the outset the press has been dedicated to nurturing writers not books, while remaining both independent and brave. Dog Horn authors are collaborators and friends. Dog Horn books are striking, both visually and in terms of content, and we welcome the daring, the absurd, the mischievous and the dangerous.
