85th Annual Oscar Winners Announced

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences handed out their 85th annual Academy Awards (the “Oscars”) Sunday night. The big winner was Gravity, which took home seven awards of the ten it was nominated for.

Last year, five sf/f/h films won a total of nine awards (13 films were nominated for a total of 34 awards). This year, 10 sf/f/h films earned a total of 29 nominations (see this article; we neglected to include Her in our counts). And this year, four different genre films won ten of the 24 awards on the block.
