A press release from Underland Press:
Skyhorse Publishing and Start Publishing announced today the purchase of Underland Press, an award-winning independent publishing house dedicated to science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
Underland Press was started in 2007 by publisher Victoria Blake. Its titles have been nominated for, and won, many of the genre’s highest prizes and awards, including the Hugo, the Nebula, the World Horror Award, the Shirley Jackson, and the American Library Association Best Horror. “I’m proud of what we were able to accomplish,” said publisher Victoria Blake. “I’m thrilled that the Underland name and legacy will live on at Skyhorse and Start Publishing.”
The purchase of Underland is part of the joint effort of Skyhorse and Start to focus on science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Known for both nonfiction and for digital books, Skyhorse and Start are planning to deepen their relationship to the genre community.
“We are thrilled at the acquisition of Underland,” said Tony Lyons, Skyhorse Publisher. “We look forward to publishing 10–20 new books a year, to re-promoting the Underland backlist, and to finding new readers for these terrific books.”
Victoria Blake will continue to act as publisher of InFact Books, an imprint of the Creative Nonfiction Foundation, which is distributed by PGW.
