A press release from David Walton:
At long last, a new novel! Tor Books just released my latest book, Quintessence, in hardback, ebook, and audio formats. It’s been three years since my first novel, Terminal Mind, won the Philip K. Dick Award, but that was a work by an unknown author, published by an unknown publishing company on a small budget. Quintessence is a major hardback release from the largest science fiction and fantasy publisher in the world.
Quintessence is a little bit of everything: fantasy, science fiction, alternate history. It takes place in the sixteenth century, an exciting time when science, religion, and the world map were all being rewritten. In my sixteenth century, though, the Earth is flat, and at the edge, where the sky touches the ocean, is an island that might just hold the fountain of youth. It’s an adventure novel, stuffed full of alchemy, sea monsters, human dissection, betrayal, mutiny, torture, alternate astronomy, arcane science, religious controversy, and magic. What more could you want? You can read an excerpt on my blog to whet your appetite.
With the weight of Tor Books behind the release, there’s a lot of pressure for the book to succeed. Some people ask me if there’s anything they can do to help. If you plan to buy the book, consider buying it soon, shortly after the release–the success or failure of a book is often determined based on the sales of the first few weeks. If you like the book, a good rating on Amazon or GoodReads is always a plus. Besides that, just read, enjoy, and tell all your friends!
