Top Box Office Grossers – last week in 2012

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 28 December 2012-3 January 2013. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey maintained its magical grip on the top of the charts for a third straight week, questing up $56.6 million, for a three-week total of $246.3 million. Monsters, Inc. 3D climbed from #10 to #9, making another $11.9 million (ten percent more than last week), for a two-week total of $24.0 million. Rise of the Guardians fell from #9 to #10, bringing in $9.3 million, for a six-week total of $94.6 million.

Skyfall held steady at #11, spying up $8.7 million, for an eight-week total of $293.7 million. Life of Pi fell from #12 to #13, earning $7.4 million, for a six-week total of $88.2 million. Worlds Away held steady at #14, making $4.6 million, for a two-week total of $9.6 million. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 held steady at #15, chewing up $4.1 million, for a seven-week total of $287.8 million. Wreck-It Ralph held steady at #16, tearing down $3.7 million (about the same total as last week), for a nine-week total of $177.3 million. Argo held steady at #17, rescuing $1.9 million (the same as last week), for a twelve-week total of $109.3 million. Hotel Transylvania (which fell out of the top 25 in the first week in December) made a reappearance at #20, chewing up $850 thousand, for a fourteen-week total of $145.5 million. Red Dawn fell from #20 to #23, shooting up $700 thousand, for a six-week total of $43.7 million.
