The UK’s Royal Mail announces the issuance of stamps honoring the 50th anniversary of television icon Doctor Who. The stamps, illustrating all 11 doctors, wil be available early in 2013. The Royal Mail is taking registrations now, to be informed when precisely the stamps will be available, and also to enter a prize draw to win exclusive Doctor Who merchandise.

As the Royal Mail says on this page: “It’s 50 years since a strange old man stepped out of a Police Box in a scrapyard down Totter’s Lane, and the most beloved and exciting television series in the universe began. Since then, the Time Lord has had many faces and battled many foes, and his adventures look set to continue for years to come.” That page also has brief bios of all the Doctors through the years.

Additionally, a Miniature Sheet will be available. “Presented on an exclusive 50th Anniversary card, this Miniature Sheet brings together Second Class stamps featuring four of the Doctor’s most iconic foes (Dalek, Ood, Weeping Angel and Cybermen) around a centrepiece First Class Stamp portraying the TARDIS itself.”
