Top Box Office Grossers – Third Week in October 2012

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 12-18 October 2012. It’s more historical than sf-nal, but the faux sf film within makes us wonder if we should track the performance of Argo, which opened at #2, rescuing $26.7 million. Ethan Hawke’s mysterious crime thriller Sinister opened at #3, scaring up $22.9 million. Hotel Transylvania slipped from #2 to #4, chewing up $20.6 million, for a three-week total of $105.5 million. Comedy Here Comes the Boom opened at #5. Frankenweenie slipped from #5 to #7, reanimating $8.9 million, for a two-week total of $23.9 million. Looper fell from #4 to #8, returning $8.5 million, for a three-week total of $53.6 million. Dramedy Seven Psychopaths opened at #9.

Atlas Shrugged II: The Strike opened at #12, earning $2.2 million. House at the End of the Street fell from #8 to #14, killing $1.6 million, for a four-week total of $30.3 million. The Master fell from #9 to #15, clearing $1.1 million, for a five-week total of $14.2 million. The Dark Knight Rises slipped from #15 to #16, raising $700 thousand, for a thirteen-week total of $446.4 million. Brave, which appeared to have closed in the third week in September, is back on the charts, reappearing at #17, making $650 thousand, for a seventeen-week total of $234.6 million. Finding Nemo 3D fell from #10 to #19, swimming up $500 thousand, for a five-week total of $40.2 million. Ice Age: Continental Drift held steady at #21, melting $300 thousand, for a fourteen-week total of $159.9 million. Resident Evil: Retribution fell from #12 to #23, grossing $250 thousand, for a five-week total of $41.8 million.
