Locus alerts us to this CBS Los Angeles article. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles City Council voted to rename the intersection of Fifth and Flower Streets in downtown Los Angeles “Ray Bardbury Square”, in honor of the science fiction Grand Master who died in early June (see his obituary here).

The intersection, which boasts a public park, is very near to the Los Angeles Public Library, where Bradbury spent his early career writing on public typewriters, and continued to visit regularly, reading as much as he could.

Talking about the honor, Bradbury’s daughter Susan Nixon said, “My father would be so proud to be honored in this way.” She also noted that, as a supporter of local theater and libraries, working to keep the libraries open was her father’s “proudest accomplishment.”

Councilman Jose Huizar, who introduced the motion, said the renaming was to honor a man who was “part of the fabric of the city of L.A.”
