In voting that concluded and was announced during the recently concluded Chicon 7, and to absolutely no one’s surprise (they were running unopposed) the London in 2014 bid won the voting for the right to host the 2014 World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon). The convention, to be called Loncon 3, will be the 72nd WorldCon, the seventh held in the UK, the ninth in Europe, and the first to be held in London since 1965. It will also be the 75th anniversary of the very first WorldCon held in New York City in 1939.
Loncon 3 will be held at ExCeL in London’s Docklands from Thursday 14th to Monday 18th August 2014, and co-chaired by Alice Lawson and Steve Cooper. The convention’s web site is https://www.loncon3.org/.
Upon winning the bid, Loncon 3 immediately announced their seven guests of honour: Iain M. Banks, John Clute, Chris Foss, Malcolm Edwards Jeanne Gomoll, Robin Hobb, and Bryan Talbot.
