Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 4-10 May 2012. Surprising absolutely no one, The Avengers opened at the top of the charts, taking in more than all the other movies playing in the US combined (perhaps a marketing campaign the included four previous box office blockbusters is a help). The Avengersearned $270.0 million in its first week at the US theatres, and Variety expects the film will cross the $1 billion global box office threshold today. And apparently, all the other studios took the warning, as there were no other movies opening this week in the US.
