Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 27 April-3 May 2012. Rom-com The Five-Year Engagement opened at #2 (leaving Think Like a Man in the top spot, for the last time). The Hunger Games held steady at #3, fighting up $13.8 million, for a six-week total of $375.0 million. Aardman’s newest animated adventure The Pirates! Band of Misfits opened at #5, swashbuckling up $13.2 million. Action flick Safe opened at #6. Edgar Allan Poe movie The Raven opened at #7, screaming up $9.5 million. The Cabin in the Woods slipped from #6 to #9, earning $6.3 million, for a three-week total of $36.5 million.
Mirror Mirror slipped from #10 to #13, magicking up $2.8 million, for a five-week total of $59.4 million. Wrath of the Titans slipped from #11 to #14, adventuring up $2.6 million, for a five-week total of $81.2 million. Lockout slipped from #12 to #16, locking up $1.3 million, for a three-week total of $13.7 million. The Lorax slipped from #13 to #17, greening up $1.0 million, for a nine-week total of $208.6 million. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island slipped from #16 to #18, actioning up $600 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $102.0 million.

John Carter (last week’s #24) in its eighth week in release (box office total: $69.3 million)
