Composer Joel Goldsmith Dies

Composer Joel Goldsmith died of cancer on 29 April 2012. Born in Los Angeles, California, on 19 November 1957, he was the eldest son of composer Jerry Goldsmith. The younger Goldsmith was nominated for three Emmys, for his work on Stargate SG-1 (1998) and Stargate: Atlantis (2005 and 2006).
According to Variety, Joel got his start programming synthesizers on some of his father’s 1970s and 1980s scores including Runaway, and then established his own musical career scoring sci-fi and horror films. But his true niche was in television work: he composed the music for more than 350 episodes in the Stargate franchise.
His other genre work includes: War of the Dead (2011), seven episodes of Sanctuary (2008-09), Chameleon 3: Dark Angel (2000), Witchblade (2000), Monster! (1999), four episodes of The Outer Limits (1997), Kull the Conqueror (1997), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Vampirella (1996), Rattled (1996), Corpse Killer (1994), Man’s Best Friend (1993), Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence (1993), five episodes of Super Force (1991-92), The Rift (1990), Moon 44 (1990), Watchers (1988), Robot Holocaust (1986), The Man with Two Brains (1983), Island of Blood (1982), The Day Time Ended (1980), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Piranha (1978), Laserblast (1978), and End of the World (1977).
He is survived by his wife Martha, one daughter and two stepdaughters, his mother and stepmother, three sisters, and one brother.
