84th Annual Oscar Winners Announced

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences handed out their 84th annual Academy Awards (the “Oscars”) last night. The big winners were The Artist and Hugo, each of which took home five awards (The Artist was nominated for nine, Hugo for 11).
Last year, six sf/f/h films won a total of 11 awards (13 films were nominated for a total of 32 awards). This year, 13 sf/f/h films earned a total of 34 nominations (see this article). And this year, five different genre films won nine of the 24 awards on the block.

Cinematography: Robert Richardson for Hugo
Costume Design: Mark Bridges for The Artist
Directing: Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist
Documentary Feature: TJ Martin, Dan Lindsay, and Rich Middlemas for Undefeated
Documentary—Short Subject: Daniel Junge and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for Saving Face
Film Editing: Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Foreign Language Film: A Separation
Makeup: Mark Coulier and J. Roy Helland for The Iron Lady
Music (Original Score): Ludovic Bource for The Artist
