Kate Beckinsale’s new vampire-hunting sequel, Underworld Awakening opened at the top of the charts, sucking up $32.6 million. Tuskegee Airmen flick Red Tails opened at #2. Action flick Haywire opened at #5. Beauty and the Beast fell from #2 to #6, dancing up $11.0 million, for a two-week total of $35.8 million. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows fell from #5 to #9, deducing $5.9 million, for a six-week total of $179.7 million.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo fell from #7 to #11, seeking out $5.0 million, for a five-week total of $96.0 million. Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked fell from #9 to #14, singing up $3.7 million, for a six-week total of $125.3 million. The Devil Inside fell from #6 to #16, exorcising $3.4 million, for a three-week total of $52.0 million. The Adventures of Tintin fell from #12 to #18, adventuring up $2.8 million, for a five-week total of $72.9 million. Hugo fell from #16 to #20, clocking in $1.5 million, for a nine-week total of $56.4 million. Happy Feet 2 climbed from #24 to #22, dancing up $550 thousand, for a ten-week total of $62.7 million. After falling out of the top 25 last week, Puss In Boots climbed back up to #24, swashbuckling up another $450 thousand, for a thirteen-week total of $147.8 million. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn fell from #19 to #25, devouring $400 thousand, for a ten-week total of $280.4 million.
