ASIFA-Hollywood, the international animated film society, has announced the nominees for their 39th annual Annie Awards, honoring the best in animation. The awards ceremony, where they’ll be announcing the winners, will be held on Saturday 4 February 2012 at UCLA’s Royce Hall (Los Angeles, California). The Annies honor excellence in animation in many media, and though they’re not all sf/f/h productions, there’s a lot of cross-over on this list, so we’ve decided to include them all.
Concurrent with announcing the nominees, ASIFA-Hollywood announced the recipients of this year’s juried awards. The Winsor McCay Award goes to: Walt Peregoy, Borge Ring, and Ronald Searle. The Winsor McCay Award (see this page) is given “in recognition of lifetime or career contributions to the art of animation in producing, directing, animating, design, writing, voice acting, sound and sound effects, technical work, music, professional teaching, or for other endeavors which exhibit outstanding contributions to excellence in animation.”
The June Foray Award, for “individuals who have made a significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation”: Art Leonardi (see this page).
The Special Achievement Award for “unique and outstanding achievement”: Depth Analysis (see this page).
