Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week in October 2011

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 21-27 October 2011. Horror flick Paranormal Activity 3 showed some typical pre-Halloween activity, grabbing the top spot on the charts and scaring up $62.8 million. Real Steel slipped from #1 to #2, fighting up $13.3 million, for a three-week total of $69.2 million. The newest film version of The Three Musketeers opened at #4. Rowan Atkinson comedy Johnny English Reborn opened at #8. The Thing fell from #3 to #9, assuming $4.2 million, for a two-week total of $15.2 million.
The Lion King slipped from #10 to #13, roaring up $1.6 million, for a six-week total of $92.9 million. Feel-good The Mighty Macs opened at #15. Contagion slipped from #12 to #16, sneezing up $1.1 million, for a seven-week total of $73.8 million. Banking thriller Margin Call opened at #19. The Smurfs fell from #18 to #24, smurfing up $400 thousand, for a thirteen-week total of $140.6 million.
Falling out of the top 25 this week were:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II (last week’s #19) in its fifteenth week in release (box office total: $380.6 million)
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (last week’s #22) in its twelfth week in release (box office total: $175.7 million)
Captain America: The First Avenger (last week’s #23) in its fourteenth week in release (box office total: $176.5 million)
Cars 2 (last week’s #25) in its eighteenth week in release (box office total: $191.0 million)
