Top Box Office Grossers: First Week in October 2011

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 30 September-6 October 2011. Feel-good animal film Dolphin Tale and Moneyball climbed to the top two spots. The Lion King slipped from #1 to #3, roaring up $12.8 million, for a three-week total of $81.4 million. The four new releases this week were, opening at #3, 4, 5, and 6, were 50/50, Courageous, Dream House, and What’s Your Number. Contagion slipped from #6 to #10, sneezing up $6.4 million, for a four-week total of $66.1 million.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes slipped from #13 to #15, turning over $700 thousand, for a nine-week total of $174.6 million. Captain America: The First Avenger climbed from #25 to #17, commanding $600 thousand (fifty percent more than last week), for an eleven-week total of $175.5 million. After falling out of the top 25 three weeks ago, Cars 2 raced back up the charts to #21, revving up $500 thousand, for a fifteen-week total of $190.2 million. Spy Kids: All the Time in the World fell from #17 to #23, seeking out $400 thousand, for a seven-week total of $37.6 million. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part II slipped from #22 to #25, conjuring up $400 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $379.3 million.
