HWA’s Lifetime Achievement Award Committee Announced

A press release from Lisa Morton of the Horror Writers Association:
HWA President Rocky Wood is proud to announce the Lifetime Achievement Award Committee for 2011. The Bram Stoker Award for Lifetime Achievement may be given to an individual whose work has substantially influenced the dark fantasy/horror/occult genre. While ordinarily this would go to an author whose body of work represents an extraordinary level of quality over an extended period of time, it may also recognize influential accomplishments in other creative fields. The 2011 winner(s) will be announced shortly before the Bram Stoker Awards Banquet is held at World Horror Convention 2012 in Salt Lake City on March 31, 2012.
Del Howison will chair the Committee, which is comprised of Christopher Golden, Gene O’Neill, Jonathan Maberry, and Yvonne Navarro. “This is a particularly prestigious group of HWA Active
Members, with a wide understanding of the horror genre, and we look forward to hearing the results of their deliberations,” Rocky said.
The Lifetime Achievement Award Committee will consider recommendations submitted by all members of HWA through the Compiler of Recommendations, but they will not be required to select a recipient from that list of recommendations. Recipients must either be at least sixty years of age by March 1, 2012, or must have first produced professional work in the horror/occult/dark fantasy field no later than March 1, 1977. All recipients must be alive at the time the President is informed of the committee’s choice.
Members of HWA may submit their recommendations by E-mail to president [at] horror [dot] org or by visiting the appropriate thread on the Members Only message board.
Past winners of the Lifetime Achievement Award include Stephen King, Peter Straub, Anne Rice, Robert Bloch, John Carpenter, Richard Matheson, Ray Bradbury, and Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. A full list may be found here. Last year’s winners were Ellen Datlow and Al Feldstein.
