Zoo City wins Clarke Award

Zoo City by Lauren Beukes won (published by Angry Robot) won this year’s Arthur C. Clarke Award. The juried award, which includes a prize of £2011, is “the most prestigious award for science fiction in Britain.” Beukes is the first South African author to win the prize.
As was the case last year, the award announcement was part of the opening ceremonies of Sci-Fi-London 9: The Ninth Annual International Festival of Science Fiction and Fantastic Film.
Sam Jordison writes about the ceremony and Beukes in this Guardian post.
More information on the award, as well as the short list from which the winner was chosen, appeared in this article in March. The Clarke Award page should soon have comments from the judges.
