83rd Annual Oscar Winners Announced

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences handed out their 83rd annual Academy Awards (the “Oscars”) tonight. The big winner was The Hurt Locker, with six wins out of nine nominations. [Editor’s note: sorry for the editing mistake.] There was no big winner this year: The King’s Speech and Inception each took home four awards, The Social Network won three, and several others won two each.
Last year, three sf/f/h films won a total of six awards (12 films were nominated for a total of 35 awards). This year, 13 sf/f/h films earned a total of 32 nominations (see this article). This year, six different genre films won 11 of the 24 awards on the block.
