Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 14-20 January 2011. There’s a new comic book superhero on the big screen: The Green Hornet opened at #1, battling up $45.3 million. Comedy The Dilemma opened at #2. Black Swan once again showed strength, holding strong at #5, swooping up $12.5 million (5% more than last week), for a seven-week total of $77.4 million. Tron: Legacy fell from #4 to #7, earning $8.3 million, for a five-week total of $159.6 million. Yogi Bear stole another picnic basket, climbing from #9 to #8, snatching up $8.1 million (just a shade more than last week), for a five-week total of $84.8 million. Season of the Witch fell from #3 to #10, conjuring up $6.4 million, for a two-week total of $19.9 million.
Tangled slipped from #10 to #11, spinning up $6.2 million, for an eight-week total of $183.3 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader slipped from #11 to #13, tallying up $3.5 million, for a six-week total of $99.3 million. Gulliver’s Travels slipped from #12 to #14, tying up $3.3 million, for a four-week total of $38.8 million. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I fell from #14 to #17, taking in $2.0 million, for a nine-week total of $290.4 million. Megamind climbed from #20 to #18, making $1.0 million (three times as much as last week), for an eleven-week total of $145.8 million.
