Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 24-30 December 2010. Two new films opened at the top of the charts: sequel Little Fockers and remake True Grit. These pushed Tron: Legacy from #1 to #3, where it earned $44.3 million, for a two-week total of $112.5 million. Yogi Bear slipped from #2 to #4, snatching up $25.1 million, for a two-week total of $53.1 million. The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader slipped from #3 to #5, tallying up $23.5 million ($700 thousand more than last week), for a three-week total of $76.6 million. Tangled slipped from #5 to #6, spinning up $20.6 million (15% more than last week), for a five-week total of $158.0 million. Gulliver’s Travels (the Jack Black comedy) opened at #7, tying up $18.1 million. Black Swan (which we hadn’t been listing, but now realize does qualify on some level as a dark fantasy), this week was #9 on the charts, swooping up $16.5 million, for a four-week total of $38.9 million.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I slipped from #10 to #13, taking in $9.0 million, for a six-week total of $278.8 million. Megamind climbed two spots, from #16 to #14, making $1.2 million, for an eight-week total of $143.6 million. Despicable Me held steady at #23, grossing $275 thousand (just as much as last week), for a twenty-five week total of $251.0 million.
