Top Box Office Grossers: Third Week in December 2010

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 17-23 December 2010. A new week, a new film opens at the top of the charts. This week, Tron: Legacy—the sequel 28 years in the making—opened at #1, earning $68.2 million. Another talking-animals fantasy film opened at #2, with Dan Aykroyd bringing Yogi Bear to life, snatching up $28.0 million with the picnic baskets. The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader slipped from #1 to #3, tallying up $22.8 million, for a two-week total of $53.1 million. Tangled slipped from #3 to #5, spinning up $18.1 million (just as much as last week), for a four-week total of $137.3 million. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I fell from #4 to #10, taking in $9.1 million, for a five-week total of $269.8 million.
Megamind fell from #10 to #16, making $1.4 million, for a seven-week total of $142.3 million. Despicable Me slipped from #22 to #23, grossing $275 thousand (just a shade more than last week), for a twenty-four week total of $250.6 million.

The Warrior’s Way (last week’s #14) in its third week in release (box office total: $5.5 million)
Skyline (last week’s #25) in its sixth week in release (box office total: $21.4 million)
