2011 Eaton Conference to feature Ellison, Hopkinson, and Mieville

The University of California at Riverside’s 2011 Eaton Science Fiction Conference will be held 11-13 February 2011. Expected speakers include Greg Benford, Howard V. Hendrix, Nalo Hopkinson, China Miéville, and Karen Tei Yamashita, with Mike Davis (UCR Professor of Creative Writing) providing the keynote address (“Remembering Ward Moore and the Lawn That Ate L.A.”). 2010 Eaton Award for Lifetime Achievement in Science Fiction recipient Samuel R. Delany and 2011 recipient Harlan Ellison are also expected to be in attendance. There will also be tours of the Eaton Collection offered “to a limited number of conference participants on Sunday.”
The conference, which draws authors, scholars and fans from throughout North America and around the world, will explore global science fiction in a three-day event held at the Mission Inn and Spa in Riverside, California. Registration is $165 for the entire conference ($55 for students) or $75 for a single day.
The conference will be preceded, on 10 February, by the Science Fiction Studies Symposium, which is open to the public. The Symposium will explore the theme “The Singularity in SF Literature and Theory,” with scheduled participants Neil Easterbrook (Texas Christian University), Brooks Landon (University of Iowa), and Rob Latham.
