Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 5-11 November 2010. As Halloween’s horror offerings wind down, autumn’s sf blockbusters take center stage. This week, the animated Megamind was the megahit, making $59.7 million in its first week in release. Due Date and For Colored Girls opened at #2 and #3. Red, in its fourth week, held onto the #4 spot. Saw 3D fell from #1 to #5, chopping up $10.1 million, for a two-week total of $40.7 million. Paranormal Activity 2 fell from #2 to #6, with activity of $9.0 million, for a three-week total of $79.0 million. Hereafter fell from #5 to #9, earning $5.4 million, for a four-week total of $30.1 million.
Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga’Hoole fell from #10 to #19, swooping up $650 thousand, for a seven-week total of $54.2 million. Despicable Me, which last week fell out of the top 25, this week rebounded to #21, grossing $475 thousand, for an eighteen-week total of $248.5 million. Inception slipped from #20 to #22, earning $475 thousand, for a seventeen-week total of $291.6 million. Toy Story 3 slipped from #22 to #24, playing up $400 thousand, for a twenty-one-week total of $414.4 million.
Falling out of the top 25 this week were:
Devil (last week’s #17) in its eighth week in release (box office total: $33.5 million)
Alpha and Omega (last week’s #18) in its eighth week in release (box office total: $24.5 million)
My Soul to Take (last week’s #23) appears to have closed after four weeks in the theatres, with a box office total of less than $15 million
