Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 24-30 September 2010. Long-gapped sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps opened at #1. Animated adventure Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga’Hoole opened at #3, swooping up $19.2 million. Devil fell from #3 to #6, scaring up $8.5 million, for a two-week total of $23.7 million. Resident Evil: Afterlife slipped from #4 to #7, raising $6.7 million, for a three-week total of $53.8 million. Alpha and Omega slipped from #5 to #8, wolfing down $5.6 million, for a two-week total of $16.0 million. Inception slipped from #9 to #10, earning $1.7 million, for an eleven-week total of $287.5 million.
Despicable Me climbed from #17 to #16, grossing $725 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $245.7 million. Nanny McPhee Returns slipped from #16 to #18, cleaning up $475 thousand, for a six-week total of $28.3 million. The Last Exorcism fell from #14 to #21, grossing $425 thousand, for a five-week total of $40.9 million. Toy Story 3 slipped from #21 to #23, taking in $400 thousand, for a fifteen-week total of $411.2 million.
Falling out of the top 25 this week were:
Vampires Suck (last week’s #20), after six weeks in the theatres (box office total: $36.2 million)
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (last week’s #22) after seven weeks in release ($31.4 million)
Avatar (last week’s #24), after 41 weeks on the charts (combining its first release with this re-release), with a box-office total of $760.3 million
