Top Box Office Grossers: Third Week in August 2010

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 13-19 August 2010. Action flick The Expendables opened at #1, and Eat Pray Love opened at #2. Inception slipped from #2 to #4, where it earned $17.0 million, for a five-week total of $254.2 million. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World opened at #5, battling up $15.7 million. Despicable Me held strong at #6, grossing $11.2 million, for a six-week total of $226.4 million. Cats & Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore slipped from #7 to #10, woofing up $6.9 million, for a three-week total of $38.0 million.
Spoof film Vampires Suck opened on the 18th, but still managed to suck up $6.4 million, to grab #11 on the charts. Toy Story 3 slipped from #9 to #12, taking in $3.7 million, for a nine-week total of $402.3 million. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice slipped from #12 to #14, generating $2.1 million, for a five-week total of $60.1 million. Twilight: Eclipse fell from #11 to #15, sucking up $2.1 million, for a seven-week total of $296.6 million. Shrek Forever After slipped from #16 to #19, grossing $575 thousand, for a thirteen-week total of $237.5 million. The Last Airbender fell from #15 to #22, conjuring up $550 thousand, for a seven-week total of $129.9 million. Predators fell from #18 to #25, grabbing $475 thousand, for a six-week total of $51.2 million.
