Top Box Office Grossers: Second Week in August 2010

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 6-12 August 2010. New comedy The Other Guys opened at the top of the charts, pushing Inception from #1 to #2, where it earned $28.1 million, for a four-week total of $237.2 million. Despicable Me slipped from #4 to #6, grossing $15.2 million, for a five-week total of $215.2 million. Cats & Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Calore slipped from #5 to #7, woofing up $11.5 million, for a two-week total of $31.0 million. Toy Story 3 slipped from #7 to #9, taking in $5.3 million, for an eight-week total of $398.6 million.
Twilight: Eclipse showed some strength, holding strong at #11, and sucking up $3.8 million, for a six-week total of $294.6 million. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice fell from #8 to #12, generating $3.7 million, for a four-week total $58.4 million. The Last Airbender slipped from #13 to #15, conjuring up $1.1 million, for a six-week total of $129.3 million. Shrek Forever After held steady at #16, grossing $750 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $236.9 million.Predators fell from #14 to #18, grabbing $675 thousand, for a five-week total of $50.7 million.
Falling out of the top 25 this week were:
Iron Man 2 (last week’s #20) in its fourteenth week in release (US box office total: $311.9 million)
Marmaduke (last week’s #25) in its tenth week in release ($33.2 million)
