Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week in August 2010

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 20-26 August 2010. The Expendables and Eat Pray Love held on at #1 and #2, respectively. Spoof film Vampires Suck, which was open only a day or two last week, this week climbed from #11 to #3, sucking up $15.5 million, for a just over one-week box office total of $21.9 million. Fantasy/comedy Nanny McPhee Returns opened at #7, cleaning up $12.3 million. Inception fell from #4 to #8, where it earned $11.5 million, for a six-week total of $265.6 million. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World fell from #5 to #10, battling up $7.4 million, for a two-week total of $23.1 million.
Despicable Me fell from #6 to #11, grossing $7.0 million, for a seven-week total of $233.4 million. Cats & Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore fell from #10 to #15, woofing up $2.6 million, for a four-week total of $40.6 million. Toy Story 3 fell from #12 to #16, taking in $2.2 million, for a ten-week total of $404.5 million. Twilight: Eclipse fell from #15 to #19, sucking up $800 thousand, for an eight-week total of $297.4 million. The Sorcerer’s Apprentice fell from #14 to #25, generating $475 thousand, for a six-week total of $60.6 million.
Falling out of the top 25 this week were:
Shrek Forever After (last week’s #19) in its fourteenth week in release (box office total: $237.8 million)
The Last Airbender (last week’s #22) in its eighth week ($130.2 million)
Predators (last week’s #25) in its seventh week ($51.5 million)
