Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 21-27 May 2010. The ogre dethroned the supersuit. Shrek Forever After opened in the #1 spot, grossing $89.8 million. Iron Man 2, therefore, was pushed from #1 to #2, earning $33.9 million, for a three-week total of $258.6 million. Robin Hood slipped from #2 to #3, redistributing $25.3 million, for a two-week total of $72.7 million. A Nightmare on Elm Street slipped from #6 to #9, grabbing $3.1 million, for a four-week total of $60.8 million. How to Train Your Dragon, fell from #5 to #10, swooping up $2.5 million, for a nine-week total of $211.6 million.
Alice in Wonderland climbed this week, from #18 to #15, conjuring up $700 thousand (nearly 20% more than last week), for a twelve-week total of $333.4 million $332.3 million. Clash of the Titans fell from #10 to #22, taking in $500 thousand, for an eight-week total of $161.1 million. Kick Ass fell from #14 to #23, kicking up $400 thousand, for a six-week total of $47.3 million. Hot Tub Time Machine held steady at #24, bubbling up with $400 thousand, for a nine-week total of $49.7 million.
