Top Box Office Grossers: Third Week in May 2010

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 14-20 May 2010. Iron Man 2 held strong, maintaining the #1 spot on the charts in its second week (even against three new films). This week, Robert Downey, Jr., in the iron suit earned $65.5 million, for a two-week total of $224.7 million. Ridley Scott’s new Robin Hood opened at #2, redistributing $47.4 million. Letters to Juliet and Just Wright opened at #3 and #4. How to Train Your Dragon, behind three new openers, slipped only from #3 to #5, swooping up $6.4 million, for an eight-week total of $209.1 million. A Nightmare on Elm Street fell from #2 to #6, grabbing $6.2 million, for a three-week total of $57.6 million. Clash of the Titans slipped from #7 to #10, taking in $1.7 million, for a seven-week total of $160.6 million.
Kick Ass slipped from #12 to #14, kicking up $800 thousand, for a five-week total of $46.9 million. Alice in Wonderland fell from #14 to #18, conjuring up $600 thousand, for an eleven-week total of $331.7 million. Avatar fell from #18 to #22, grabbing $500 thousand, for a twenty-two week total of $748.6 million. Hot Tub Time Machine fell from #16 to #24, bubbling up with $475 thousand, for an eight-week total of $49.3 million. Shutter Island, which fell out of the top 25 two weeks ago, climbed back up to #25 this week, grossing $400 thousand, for a thirteen-week total of $127.3 million.
