Top Box Office Grossers: Second Week in May 2010

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 7-13 May 2010. Apparently, the only film with the guts to open at the same time as the new Iron Man was the documentary Babies (which emerged at #9 on the charts). Iron Man 2, however, bashed its way to the top of the charts, earning $159.2 million in its first week in release. A Nightmare on Elm Street was pushed down from #1 to #2, grabbing $12.0 million, for a two-week total of $51.4 million. How to Train Your Dragon slipped from #2 to #3, swooping up $8.3 million, for a seven-week total of $202.6 million. Clash of the Titans held steady at #7, taking in $3.4 million (less than half of what it earned a week earlier), for a six-week total of $158.9 million.
Kick Ass fell from #8 to #12, kicking up $2.3 million, for a four-week total of $46.1 million. Alice in Wonderland slipped from #12 to #14, conjuring up $900 thousand, for a ten-week total of $331.1 million. Hot Tub Time Machine fell from #13 to #16, bubbling up with $800 thousand, for a seven-week total of $48.9 million. Avatar climbed from #19 to #18, grabbing $600 thousand (only two-thirds of what it earned last week), for a twenty-one-week total of $748.1 million.
