Top Box Office Grossers: First Week in May 2010

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 30 April-6 May 2010. The newest incarnation of A Nightmare on Elm Street (with Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger) opened at the top of the charts, slashing its way to a $39.4 million box office take. How to Train Your Dragon slipped from #1 to #2, swooping up $12.8 million, for a six-week total of $194.3 million. Clash of the Titans slipped from #6 to #7, taking in $7.4 million, for a five-week total of $155.5 million. Kick Ass fell from #4 to #8, kicking up $6.1 million, for a three-week total of $43.8 million.
Alice in Wonderland slipped from #10 to #12, conjuring up $1.9 million, for a nine-week total of $330.1 million. Hot Tub Time Machine slipped from #11 to #13, bubbling up with $1.6 million, for a six-week total of $48.1 million. Avatar fell from #15 to #19, grabbing $900 thousand, for a twenty-week total of $747.5 million.
Falling out of the top 25 this week:
Shutter Island (last week’s #22) fell out of the top 25 after eleven weeks in release ($126.6 million)
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (last week’s #24) fell out of the top 25 for a second time, after twelve weeks in release ($88.1 million)
