Actress Lynn Redgrave Dies

Actress Lynn Redgrave died peacefully at her Connecticut home on 2 May 2010 after a long battle with breast cancer. Born 8 March 1943, she was part of the acting Redgrave dynasty (her brother, Corin, died last month). Lynn was awarded an OBE in the 2002 Queen’s New Years Honours List for her services to drama. She won Golden Globes in 1967 for Georgy Girl and 1999 for Gods and Monsters. She was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1981 for House Calls, Academy Awards in 1967 (for Georgy Girl) and 1999 (for Gods and Monsters), for an Emmy Award in 1981 (for House Calls), and for BAFTA Awards in 1965, 1967, 1997, and 1999 (for, respectively, Girl with Green Eyes, Georgy Girl, Shine, and Gods and Monsters). She was also nominated for five Tony Awards. Lynn and and her elder sister, Vanessa Redgrave (in Morgan: A Suitable Case for Treatment), were both nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in 1967, but lost out to Elizabeth Taylor (who won for her role in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?).
Redgrave made her stage debut in 1962, at the Royal Court Theatre in London, then made the jump to movies, and later in the decade, crossed the Atlantic to Hollywood. Her genre roles include: Peter Pan (2003), Hansel & Gretel (2002), The Wild Thornberrys Movie (2002), Toothless (1997), What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1991), The Bad Seed (1985), two episodes of Fantasy Island (1982 and 1984), The Turn of the Screw (1974), and Every Thing You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask (1972).
She is survived by her three children, Ben, Pema, and Annabel (she and her husband of 33 years, actor/director John Clark, divorced in late 2000), and her elder sister, actress Vanessa Redgrave.
