Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 12-18 March 2010. Alice in Wonderland held on to the top spot on the charts for its second week, conjuring up $84.6 million, for a two-week total of $231.2 million. (Green Zone, She’s Out of My League, Remember Me, and Our Family Wedding opened respectively at numbers 2, 3, 5, and 6.) Shutter Island was pushed down from #2 to #4, where it still took in $11.1 million, for a four-week total of $111.0 million. Avatar slipped from #5 to #7, grabbing $9.1 million, for a thirteen-week total of $732.9 million.
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief slipped from #7 to #11, making $4.5 million, for a five-week total of $83.7 million. Tooth Fairy fell from #11 to #17, earning $1.1 million, for an eight-week total of $57.7 million. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel showed even more strength than last week, climbing from #19 to #18, grossing $750 thousand (11% more than last week), for a twelve-week total of $218.3 million. The Wolfman plummeted from #11 to #20, scaring up $575 thousand, for a five-week total of $61.6 million. The Princess and the Frog climbed back up from #25 to #22, making $350 thousand (a little less than last week), for a sixteen-week total of $104.2 million. Sherlock Holmes slipped from #20 to #23, earning $325 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $207.5 million.
The Book of Eli, last week’s #18, fell all the way out of the top 25 this week, after nine weeks in the theatres, and $93.9 million.
