Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 26 February-4 March 2010. Shutter Island held onto the top spot, taking in $29.6 million, for a two-week total of $82.5 million. Avatar slipped back down from #2 to #4 (behind two brand new movies, Cop Out and The Crazies), grabbing $19.6 million, for am eleven-week total of $712.5 million. Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief slipped from #4 to #5, making $11.5 million, for a three-week total of $72.9 million. The Wolfman fell from #5 to #8, scaring up $5.7 million, for a three-week total of $58.8 million. Tooth Fairy slipped from #7 to #9, earning $4.1 million, for a six-week total of $54.6 million.
The Book of Eli slipped from #11 to #12, taking in $1.5 million, for a seven-week total of $92.9 million. Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel fell from #15 to #19, grossing $1.0 million, for a ten-week total of $216.8 million. Sherlock Holmes fell from #16 to $20, earning $800 thousand, for a ten-week total of $206.6 million. The Princess and the Frog slipped from #21 to #22, and earned $600 thousand, for a fourteen-week total of $103.4 million. Twilight: New Moon fell from #22 to #25, sucking in $400 thousand, for a fifteen-week total of $296.1 million.
Legion, last week’s #18, plummeted out of the top 25 this week, after six weeks in the theatres and $39.6 million.
