ChiZine Publications creepy photo contest

To celebrate the 15 May release of Philip Nutman‘s short story collection Cities of Night, ChiZine Publications (CZP) is running a photography contest to find the “most subtle, creepy, evocative photo of your city—or any city—at night.” The grand prize winner will have their winning photo posted on the ChiZine Publications website, receive a signed, limited-edition hardcover of the book, and 25 postcards with their photo on one side and a short story based on the photo written by Nutman on the other. One hundred more postcards will be passed out at the book release party in Atlanta.
CZP Co-Publisher Brett Alexander Savory said “We’ve done contests in the past, but they’ve involved writing. This breaks the mold a little bit. We take pride in our cover art, and Art Director Erik Mohr has been widely recognized for his work, so maybe it’s time to see what our fans can come up with, visually.”
Deadline is 16 April. The contest is open to anyone, and each entrant can submit three photos for judging. CZP will select the 10 finalists, and then Nutman will pick the winner.
Submissions can be made via email, but CZP is also encouraging entrants to post their photos on Twitter, Facebook, or Flickr. Co-publisher Sandra Kasturi says the goal of using social media “is for people to see what others are doing. To get inspired and generate ideas. We’re looking for ‘creepy’ and ‘weird’, and we’re hoping people with a visual eye can show us just what that means. It could be overt, subtle, close-up, landscape—we’re looking forward to what people submit.”
