Will Shetterly writes to tell us “I’m releasing a new novel, Midnight Girl, under the Doctorow plan: there’s free text or paid versions available.” In greater detail, he explains in this blog post that he’s written a novel which editors seem to love, but which their seniors at major publishing houses find less than commercial.
Shetterly offers this description of the novel: “Your dad used to be the spooky-mysteries TV show host Professor Midnight. Your grandmother lives in the basement and only comes upstairs after dark. Your mom died when you were a baby, and nobody will tell you about her. Oh, and you have two birthdays, both on Halloween. And that’s the part of your life that’s normal. But with this birthday, everything is going to change.”
This post offers links to the book in a series of formats: as a free electronic file from Scribd, in various electronic formats from Smashwords ($3.95 each), as an Amazon Kindle download, or as a trade paperback ($14.99) or hardcover ($21.95) from Lulu.
Shetterly is the author of Dogland (1997) and Elsewhere (1991), which won the Minnesota Book Award for Fantasy & Science Fiction. With his author-wife Emma Bull, he is the co-creator of the Liavek shared universe.
