Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 11-17 December 2009. The Princess and the Frog, which finally officially opened after several weeks in “pre-release”, topped the charts, earning $29.7 million, for a three-week total of $32.5 million. Sports movies took the #2 and #3 spots: The Blind Side slipped to #2, and Invictus opened at #3. Twilight: New Moon was pushed from #2 to #4 spot, sucking in $10.8 million, for a four-week total of $270.2 million. Disney’s A Christmas Carol slipped back down from #4 to #5, earning $9.8 million, for a six-week total of $127.4 million. 2012 slipped from #5 to #7, grabbing $5.9 million, for a five-week total of $156.8 million.
Planet 51 fell from #9 to #13, where it earned $2.8 million, for a four-week total of $37.7 million. Fantastic Mr. Fox slipped from #11 to #14, nabbing $1.9 million, for a five-week total of $16.8 million. The Road slipped from #16 to #17, bringing in $750 thousand, for a three-week total of $4.3 million. The Men Who Stare at Goats fell from #18 to #21, grossing $300 thousand, for a six-week total of $31.8 million.

Transylmania (last week’s #21) has been open for two weeks, and grossed just under $400 thousand.
The Fourth Kind (last week’s #24) has been open for six weeks, and grossed $25.2 million.
