Albedo One’s International Aeon Award, 4Q 2009 finalists

Co-editor Frank Ludlow writes to give us an update on Albedo One‘s International Aeon Award.
“The judges have decided and we have announced the last additions to the shortlist for the Aeon Award 2009 short fiction contest. This time nine new stories have been added, bringing the total number of stories on the shortlist to a healthy total of 27. Author names are withheld as usual while the judging proceeds.
“The next, and very difficult step, is for the judges to decide on the top six from the shortlist. This is a stage that normally has emotions running pretty high. We hope to announce the top six on the Albedo One website by Christmas. The top six will then go to Grand Judge Ian Watson, who will pick the winner and the two runner up stories. All three will be published in Albedo One. The Grand Prize is €1000, with €200 and €100 prizes for the runner ups.”
The titles of the nine new stories (as always, they keep the author’s names off the stories to ensure impartiality of judging) are:
“He Who Picks the Bones”
“Trimble Does Time”
“Canis Lupus, Rosa Canina”
“Frogs on my Doorstep”
“Something Other”
“Bridges”
“In the Boughs of his Blood Orange Tree a Vampire Sat to Dream of Love”
“Stars in the Skies”
“Don’t Go Playing with Naiads”
Next year’s contest opens for entries on 1 January 2010.
Full details on the contest and the magazine are available on the Albedo One web site. Founded in 1993, Albedo One is “Ireland’s longest-running and foremost magazine of the Fantastic.”
