Tim Powers has sold UK rights to four books to Nicholas Cheetham at Corvus Books. John Berlyne of Zeno Agency was subagent on the deal for Russell Galen of the Scovil Galen Ghosh Literary Agency.
Under terms of the deal, Declare, which won the World Fantasy Award in 2001, will appear as a mass market paperback, probably in June 2010. It will be followed by Three Days to Never (2006) in January 2011. The deal will also see the British publication of The Stress of Her Regard (1990) and a new novel, The Lights Along the Shore, which is a loose sequel to Stress.
The deal was something of a personal quest for Berlyne, who writes “my favourite author nonpareil is the American genre writer Tim Powers. His work has thrilled and fascinated me for over twenty years, [so much so that I spent] the last ten years writing a book on the subject. Secret Histories is now available from PS Publishing, and one significant thing occurred to me whilst I was working on it was that, with only minor exceptions, Powers remained out of print here in the UK for almost the entire time I was writing about him. Given my expert knowledge on this particular subject, I decided to set about addressing the issue, and it is with tremendous personal and professional pride that I am delighted to announce” this deal.
Cheetham seems just as happy with the deal: “Everyone is a Tim Powers fan, but just not everybody knows it… yet. We’re looking forward to changing that.”
