For those of you wondering, the Emperor Norton Awards are given annually in San Francisco for “extraordinary invention and creativity unhindered by the constraints of paltry reason.” They’re named for Joshua Abraham Norton (1819-1880), who in 1859 proclaimed himself Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico.
