Steampulp Publishing’s President and Founder John Sondericker writes that the company has just released issue #2 of Steampunk Tales, an “electronic pulp-fiction magazine. Emulating the style of the pulp adventure magazines of the 1920s and ’30s, Steampunk Tales is a monthly publication that contains first-run, original fiction written by an A+ list of award-winning authors.” The magazine is edited by Meagan Franklin.
Their original plan was to publish the magazine exclusively as an iPhone application, but with the second issue, they’ve expanded their availability into other formats, including Amazon Kindle, MobiPocket eBook and as a DRM-free pdf digital download. The magazine retails for $1.99, in most cases.
The table of contents for the second issue includes the following stories:
“Green Smoke” by David Wellington
“Speaker for the Mayans” by Brenda Cooper
“The Flight of the Swallow” by Arkwright
“Stormada Chapter II: Fresh Tears for Ancient Sins” by SatyrPhil Brucato
“An Unfortunate Engagement: Part Five” by G.D. Falksen
“Letters Between Young Ladies of Fashionable Society, and the Alarming Events that Unfold Within” by Jillian Venters
“The Rain-Maker” by Phillip Challis
“Immum Coeli” by Angie Montmartre
“Hunting the Future Part 1 (of 2)” by Mark Rossmore
“The Freak from the Past” by Lawrence R. Dagstine
The cover art is by Paul Sizer.
Sondericker also tells us the first issue is still available. The table of contents for that issue includes:
“The Mask of Tezcatlipoca” by G.D. Falksen
“Benedice Te” by Jay Lake
“Stormada: Red Blossoms for the Queen” by Phil Brucato
“The Anachronist’s Cookbook” by Catherynne M. Valente
“A Grain of Sand” by Mark Rossmore
“Lowlands Low” by J Flesher
“The Reanimation Emporium” by Brian Rappatta
“Project Möbius-5” by K.E. Kendall
“The Man and the Robot” by Noel Black
“Tempus Fugit” by Jennifer Wilson
This is awesome. I totally love this stuff and Jillian Venters is so cool. The cover is very nice.
