Editor Mike Allen writes with a triple-shot of news related to Mythic Delirium, his “biannual journal that publishes science fiction, fantasy, horror, surreal, and cross-genre poetry.”
First, the new featured poems on the magazine’s web site—which are available as illustrated text and as audio files—are:
“Last One Laments” by Lindsey Nair (which was first published in MD #4)
“Eating Light” by F.J. Bergmann (from issue #17, it won the Rhysling Award)
Apple Jack Tangles the Maidy Lac with a Red, Red Ribbon” by Amal El-Mohtar and Jessica Paige Wick (from the current issue #20)
Second: Allen is giving away five copies of the 10th Anniversary Issue (#20) of the magazine, which in addition to the El-Mohtar and Wick poem, features an original poem by Neil Gaiman “and a specially hand-stamped illustration.” To enter the contest, “read and or listen to El-Mohtar and Wick’s featured poem and send an e-mail to mythicdelirium at gmail dot com, guessing which poet wrote which of the two speaking parts. (The odds aren’t so bad, as there are only two possible combinations.) Entries must be received by 31 August.”
Third: Mythic Delirium will reopen to submissions from 9 October to 9 November, for the magazine’s first guest-edited issue, #22 (Winter/Spring 2010). “During that submission window, the co-editors of Goblin Fruit,” the aforementioned El-Mohtar and Wick—”will serve as guest editors.” Issue #22 is currently scheduled to be published in March. Allen will provide a special e-mail address for submissions specifically for this issue, and will announce it closer to the submission window, on the MD web site.
Finally, careful readers will notice Allen talked about issue #20 and issue #22. The intervening issue, #21, “The Trickster Issue”, will be a “specially-themed issue that continues our year-long anniversary celebration… with new poetry from Danny Adams, Jennifer Crow, Kendall Evans and David. C. Kopaska-Merkel, Theodora Goss, Ann K. Schwader, Sonya Taaffe, Catherynne M. Valente, JoSelle Vanderhooft, Jessica Wick, and more.”
