Susan Heyboer O’Keefe sold The Patchwork Man to Heather Proulx at Three Rivers Press, via agent Steven Chudney at The Chudney Agency. The book “builds on the classic Frankenstein, exploring what would have happened had the monster survived the icy tundra at the end of Mary Shelley’s landmark novel, moving from a decaying Venice, to the British countryside, to the Orkney Islands, and finally to a Northumbrian coal mine.”
O’Keefe is the author of nearly a score of books (both chapter and picture), including Death by Eggplant, My Life and Death by Alexandra Canarsie, One Hungry Monster, and More Hungry Monsters.
As a teacher of Frankenstein to juniors in high school, I often said this should have had a sequel as the monster may not have died. I wonder will O’Keefe continue Shelley’s fascination with the use of the word “countenance” or will she pick up a new SAT word to abuse?
The Patchwork Man sounds like a great concept for a horror story. I’ll have to add it to my to be read list. Thanks for the information.
