Top Box Office Grossers: Second Week in May

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 8-14 May 2009. Star Trek opened to huge numbers, taking the top spot and $104.6 million. That pushed X-Men Origins: Wolverine from #1 to #2, but the comic-based Hugh Jackman film still took in $33.7 million, for a two-week total of $136.3 million. Romantic comedy (with fantasy overtones) The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past was pushed from #2 to #3, taking in $13.4 million, for a two-week total of $33.2 million. 17 Again fell from #4 to #6, grossing $5.2 million, for a four-week total of $55.0 million. Monsters vs. Aliens slipped from #6 to #8, bringing in $4.0 million, for a seven-week total of $187.6 million.
Knowing fell from #15 to #18, taking in $400 thousand, for an eight-week total of $78.5 million. The Haunting in Connecticut fell from #18 to #21, grossing $250 thousand, for a seven-week total of $55.4 million. Animated adventure film with a message Battle for Terra fell from #12 to #23, earning $225 thousand, for a two-week total of $1.6 million.
Crank High Voltage, which last week was #16, this week fell out of the top 25, in its fourth week in release.
