The 2010 World Horror Convention, to be held in Brighton, England, has announced its Guests of Honour. The Author GoHs will be Tanith Lee and David Case; Les Edwards and Dave Carson are to be the Artists GoHs; and Hugh Lamb will be the Editor GoH.
Tanith Lee is the winner of a British Fantasy Award and two World Fantasy Awards, and a Nebula Award nominee. Her first novel, The Birthgrave, was published by DAW in 1975. Since then, she has published ninety novels and collections. Her retrospective collection, Dreams of Dark and Light, was recently published by Arkham House.
David Case began publishing in the 1970s. Two of his stories have been adapted for the screen: “Fengriffen” became And Now the Screaming Starts! in 1973, and “The Hunter” became the 1974 Scream of the Wolf. He is best known for his short horror fiction, but has written more than 300 books under at least 17 pseudonyms in a variety of genres.
Les Edwards, aka Edward Miller, was the Artist GoH at the 1995 World Science Fiction Convention. He won the British Fantasy Society’s Best Artist award seven times, and as Miller, won the World Fantasy Award for Best Artist in 2008. His illustrations have covered books, magazines, and graphic novels for 35 years, and also works in advertising, gaming, record and CD covers, and movie posters (including Clive Barker’s Nightbreed, Stephen King’s Graveyard Shift, and John Carpenter’s The Thing).
Dave Carson is one of the foremost H.P. Lovecraft illustrators. He co-edited and illustrated the anthology H.P. Lovecraft’s Book of Horror, and was featured in the documentary The Eldritch Influence: The Life, Vision, and Phenomena of H.P. Lovecraft. His wider career has seen his work illustrating numerous non-Lovecraft books and magazines.
Hugh Lamb’s first anthology was A Tide of Terror: An Anthology of Rare Horror Stories, published in1972. Since then, he has edited numerous multiple- and single-author collections, and has become one of Britain’s most acclaimed editors of of ghosts and gaslight horrors. He is also known for unearthing many obscure tales by Victorian and Edwardian writers, including a lost M.R. James story for his 1975 compilation The Thrill of Horror: 22 Terrifying Tales.
The 2010 World Horror Convention will be the first held outside North America, and will be in Brighton, England, 25-28 March 2010. Membership is currently £60, but is expected to rise. The WHC web site has a list of already registered members publicly available.
The 2009 World Horror Convention will be in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, from 30 April to 3 May 2009. Guests of Honor will include Conrad Williams, Edo van Belkom, F. Paul Wilson, and Joshua Gee.
