The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Films has just announced the nominees for its 35th annual Saturn Awards. The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on 25 June 2009 at a site to be announced.
The 30 awards are broken down into three major sections: Film (17), Television (7), and DVD (6). Leading the pack of nominees is The Dark Knight, with 11 nominations (last year’s nominations leader was 300, with 10 nominations). Close behind it are The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with 9, and Iron Man with 8.
In the television categories, Lost again leads the pack, with 11 nominations (last year, it had 7). Heroes received 6 nominations (up from last year’s 4), and Battlestar Galactica and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles got 4 nominations each.
Special award recipients, if any, will be announced later.
The Academy was founded in 1972 to honor and recognize genre filmmaking. Over the years, the Academy has expanded their reach to include other film genres. The organization also honors television, and home entertainment.
