Top Box Office Grossers: Fifth Week in December

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 26 December 2008-1 January 2009. Disney’s Bedtime Stories, which was #8 last week after being open for only one day, this week jumped to the #2 slot (behind Marley and Me), taking in $54.5 million, for a box-office total take of $65.0 million. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which was #7 last week, again, after only one day in the theatres, climbed to #3 with a gross of $48.7 million, for a total of $60.6 million. The Keanu Reeves remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still dropped from #3 to #7, grossing $13.7 million, for a three-week total of $69.4 million. The Tale of Despereaux fell from #6 to #8, earning $13.6 million, for a two-week total of $32.1 million. The Spirit (which was yet another film open only one day last week), climbed from #12 to #9, bringing in $10.6 million, for a total box-office of $14.5 million.
Bolt fell from #9 to #13, garnering $7.6 million, for a six-week total of $106.6 million. Twilight slipped from #10 to #14, taking in $7.3 million, for a six-week total of $169.9 million. Quantum of Solace was down from #13 to #17, earning another $2.8 million, for a seven-week total of $165.7 million.
