Simon & Schuster, too, makes big changes

Hard on the heels of the Random House realignment announcement, Publishers Weekly also announces that Simon & Schuster is cutting 35 positions across all segments of the company. Two of the big ones are Rick Richter (head of S&S’s children’s group) and Rubin Pfeffer (senior vice president and publisher of the children’s group).
Announcing the cuts in an internal memo, CEO Carolyn Reidy said the cuts are “an unavoidable acknowledgment of the current bookselling marketplace and what may very well be a prolonged period of economic instability.”
Simon & Schuster publishes much sf/f under its Pocket Books (including the Star Trek lines) and distributes Baen Books.
